04 — The big line items
What the day totals leave out
Park permits and vehicle hire are the two costs that decide a Rwandan budget. They are listed separately so you can add only the ones you will actually buy.

05 — Practical desk
When to go, and how to move
Best time to travel
June to September and December to February are the dry seasons — firmer trails and clearer volcano views. The March–May rains make the ridges beautiful and the tracks slippery.
Getting around
Coaches leave Nyabugogo for Musanze every twenty minutes or so on good tarmac. Inside the park you need a vehicle: either a hired 4x4 with driver or a lodge transfer arranged the night before.
Know before you book
- ·Park activities start at 07:00 at Kinigi — plan to be there by 06:30.
- ·Nights at 2,000m are cold; bring a fleece even in the dry season.
- ·ATMs in Musanze are reliable but park fees are usually card or bank transfer.
06 — Quick answers
Before you commit
Can I do this route without a car?
Yes, as far as Musanze. For the park gate and the Twin Lakes ridge you will need a hired vehicle, a moto for short hops, or a lodge transfer.
Is four days enough?
It is enough for one park activity plus the lakes. Add a fifth day if you want both a gorilla trek and Bisoke.
