05 — Practical desk
When to go, and how to move
Best time to travel
Any month. The southern highway is tarmac and reliable in the rains, and museums are indoors.
Getting around
Coaches run Kigali–Nyanza–Huye every half hour. Murambi needs a taxi or moto from Huye, about 30 minutes each way.
Know before you book
- ·Memorial sites are free; a donation and respectful dress are expected.
- ·Photography is not permitted inside memorial buildings.
- ·Museums close for lunch in some seasons — arrive before 11:00 or after 14:00.
06 — Quick answers
Before you commit
Is Murambi suitable for children?
No. The site preserves human remains and is intense for adults. Families usually visit Kigali Genocide Memorial instead.
Can this be done as a day trip?
Nyanza alone can. Doing all three in a day means rushing the part that matters most.
