Good to know

Do I need to book Kigali tours in advance?

A day or two ahead is usually enough for walking tours and coffee trails. Cooking classes and full-day lake trips fill faster, especially at weekends and over the July to September high season.

How do I get around between tours?

Moto taxis are the fastest and cheapest way across Kigali, and ride-hailing cars cost only a few dollars. Most half-day tours include transport between their own stops.

Is Kigali safe to walk around?

Kigali is one of Africa's safest capitals and walking in daylight is comfortable almost everywhere. Take a car or moto after dark, as pavements and street lighting vary by neighbourhood.

What should I wear?

Rwandans dress smartly. Cover shoulders and knees at the memorial and in places of worship, and bring shoes you can climb hills in — Kigali is steep in every direction.
